Cosmetic Dentistry: Not Just for Adults

When you think of cosmetic dentistry, visions of adults with sparkling new dental veneers and flashy new smiles might come to mind. And although cosmetic dentistry does include both of those wonderful things, cosmetic dentistry can also be used to help children. From trauma to a deficiency that just won’t clear up on its own, here are three reasons your child might need to see a cosmetic dentist.

  1. When Trauma Occurs
Children are naturally a bit reckless. Trips to the ER to fix a broken bone or head injury aren’t necessarily out of the normal. If your child has experienced severe trauma to their face which has resulted in missing or broken teeth, then they need to see a cosmetic dentist. Not only will a chipped tooth be an embarrassment for your child to walk around with but it can also be a nuisance as well. Depending on whether or not the damaged tooth is a permanent tooth, your cosmetic dentist will determine if a simple dental bridge or retainer will work, or if a full dental implant will be necessary.
  2. When a Deficiency Occurs
Another instance where you might need the help of a cosmetic dentist is if your child is suffering from a dental deficiency that simply won’t clear up on its own. For instance, if your child took some medication and experienced stained teeth because of this medication, then a cosmetic dentist can help to whiten your child’s teeth before the problem exacerbates itself.
  3. When the Problem Will Advance Into Adulthood
Crowded teeth are one of the biggest cosmetic issues that you might take your child to see a cosmetic dentist for. For instance, if your child’s front teeth are crowded, then their back teeth may grow in crooked as well. The sooner you fix this problem, the better.

Cosmetic dentists aren’t just for adults. As you can see, under the above circumstances it might be in your best interest to take your child to a cosmetic dentist. To learn more about family and cosmetic dentistry, contact our office today to schedule an appointment.
