What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a clear plastic aligner that is fitted and customized to the shape of your teeth. It is designed to straighten your teeth and help you achieve the smile of your dreams. This is done without the use of metal wires and brackets like commonly found on traditional braces. The plastic that makes up Invisalign is FDA-approved and contains no toxic or harmful chemicals.
How Do They Work?
Over time, the Invisalign aligner works to straighten your teeth by applying slight pressure on them. This gentle force helps move your teeth into the desired position. This requires aligners to be replaced every few weeks as prescribed by your dentist. Every new set will continue the alignment process and slowly shift your teeth exactly how you want.
How Long is Treatment?
Depending on desired results and start point, treatment length can vary. Generally speaking, treatment can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months. Your dentist will be able to give you more information on the period length in your specific circumstances, as it could be shorter, depending on desired results.
How Often Do I Need To Wear My Aligners?
You must wear your Invisalign aligners at least 20 hours a day minimum to see effective results. Wearing them any less than 20 hours may result in a significant decrease in the quality of results. You can remove them whenever you eat, brush your teeth, or clean them, but must be worn again as soon as you are done.
