Is Cosmetic Botox Right for Me?

istock 1261244993 It happens to all of us as we get older – one day we look in the mirror and suddenly there are bunch of wrinkles that you don’t remember seeing before. It can be upsetting, but you don’t have to live with wrinkles if you don’t want to. If you are looking for a nonsurgical way to get rid of them, cosmetic Botox may be the solution for you!

What is Botox?

Botox is a neurotoxin, which means it works on the nervous system. It comes from C. botulinum bacteria, which is found in lakes, forests, and soil. This bacteria is harmless, until it starts to produce Botulinum toxin, which is very dangerous. It may seem strange to use a toxin for cosmetic purposes; however, only very small doses of the Botulinum toxin are used, and so it is safe, with very few side effects.

Cosmetic Botox acts by relaxing facial muscles that cause wrinkles. It is used to get rid of wrinkles between the eyebrows, lines around the mouth, and crow’s feet around the eyes, giving you much younger looking skin. Botox can be used to treat other conditions, too, such as chronic migraine, eye twitching, and cervical dystonia (a condition in which neck muscles contract involuntarily).

What are the advantages of Botox?

Unlike some plastic surgery procedures, Botox is nonsurgical – the Botox is injected into the skin in very precise areas with a thin needle. This can be done in your dentist’s office. You should see results fairly quickly, within 1 to 3 days. There is no down time after the procedure – you can have it done on your lunch break and then return to your normal activities. And, most patients report very little discomfort during the procedure, although you can ask to have the area numbed first.

Cosmetic Botox is a safe, effective, fast way to get rid of wrinkles. Botox will not only make you look younger – you’ll also feel younger, and you’ll feel better about yourself.
