3 Stain Causing Foods to Stay Away from This Summer

Dental Care for Children Allston MASummertime is all about spending time outside and eating fresh fruits and veggies. And although you may think that as long as it’s fresh or all-natural, it’s good for you and your health, some of the foods you may like to enjoy during the summer may be causing stains on your teeth. To help you keep your teeth white and bright all summer long, make sure to avoid these three foods. Read on to learn more.

Popsicles

Nothing is quite as refreshing as biting into an all-natural fruit popsicle after a long day out in the sun. However, popsicles made from things like berries can stain your teeth— leaving you with yellower teeth than you had, to begin with. And because popsicles contain a lot of sugar, they can also make you more susceptible to developing cavities.

Tomatoes

If you have your garden, one of the things you likely have to show off are tomatoes. Good to eat fresh or turned into a Caprese salad, tomatoes are delicious and refreshing, but they can also stain your teeth. And because they contain a lot of acids, they can also erode away at your tooth’s enamel— leaving you with weaker teeth in the process.

Blueberries

Blueberries are one of the healthiest things you can eat for your body. Containing high amounts of antioxidants, blueberries can cut down on inflammation in your body and joints. However, even though blueberries are good for your overall health, they can stain your teeth in almost an instant. So, make sure to be careful the next time you grab a handful of this tasty berry.

If you’re going to enjoy popsicles, tomatoes, or blueberries this summer, make sure to brush your teeth directly afterward. The less time these foods have in contact with your teeth, the less likely they will stain them.
