Stop Gum Disease in Its Tracks

Gum disease is one of the most common dental conditions experienced by adult patients. In fact, many patients do not even realize that they suffer from gum disease until they experience signs such as bleeding gums, sensitivity or even pain.

Gum disease in its early stages is known as gingivitis, and is commonly caused by neglected oral hygiene. The good news is that gum disease, while common, is also completely avoidable and even reversible.

Easy ways to avoid or reverse your early-stage gum disease include:

  • Visiting your dentist for regular check ups. It is recommended that you visit our office twice a year for professional teeth cleaning and a complete oral examination. These visits will include screenings for gum disease.

  • Brush after every meal. Brushing alone will not prevent gum disease. However, regular brushing in a circular motion along the gum line will remove pockets of bacteria and clear away bacteria that cause gum disease and tooth decay.

  • Floss. This is often the most neglected step in at-home dental care, but it is the most important step to avoiding gum disease. Flossing makes your gums strong and removes debris from between your teeth.

  • Use a restorative mouthwash. Mouthwashes not only help reduce bad breath but also keep your gums healthy.
